Blood test or medical consultation?

A blood test provides data. A consultation assesses your case. Before booking, consider what you need.

What each option offers

A blood test profile

What it is
A defined set of laboratory tests.
What you receive
A report with results, units and reference intervals.
Who provides it
Blood collection staff and laboratory professionals.

A medical assessment

What it is
A consultation about your symptoms, history and needs.
What you receive
A clinical assessment and guidance on next steps for your situation.
Who provides it
A GP or a specialist.

A complete check-up

What it is
An assessment whose scope depends on the centre and professional.
What you receive
Whatever is agreed: confirm whether consultation, examination, tests and follow-up are included.
Who provides it
The healthcare team at your chosen centre.

If you need a medical assessment

See your GP to assess symptoms or results. They can refer you to a specialist if your situation requires it. If you already see a specialist, speak to them before booking tests.

Before booking

What it tells you and where it stops

A normal result does not rule out a disease. An abnormal result is not a diagnosis.

Does not include a medical consultation, diagnosis, prescription or treatment.

If you need a medical assessment

  • If your symptoms are severe or getting worse quickly, go to an emergency department or call 112.
  • If you are pregnant or on treatment, speak to your doctor before booking.
